Hadassah Southern California to Honor Katherine Merage and Family in a Celebration of Life for Support of Israel and of Jewish Life in the U.S
Beverly Hills, California (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- Hadassah Southern California will honor Katherine Merage and her family in a Celebration of Life event on Sunday, April 27, in Beverly Hills. Katherine is being recognized for her commitment to and philanthropic support of the country of Israel as well as Jewish life in the United States.
“Katherine Merage is a woman of great vision and compassion,” reads the official invitation from Hadassah Southern California. The invitation continues, “Her commitment to Hadassah was instrumental in the founding of the Haifa group and Healing Spirits group in southern California, and the founding of the Denver Chapter. In Israel, Katherine’s commitment to Hadassah is evident to hundreds of thousands of patients and families that walk through the doors of the Merage Family Pavilion at the Sarah Wetsman Davidson Hospital Tower.”
Since the establishment of the Andre and Katherine Merage Foundation (headquartered in Englewood, Colorado), nearly $35 million has been invested into improving the quality of life in communities near and far through the foundation that is named after Katherine and her late husband, Andre. Katherine’s philanthropy in Israel has focused on the betterment and development of communities in the Negev, supporting the quality of life of new immigrants, and other health, education, and cultural projects. Through Katherine’s bold and visionary leadership, communities in the Negev are being revitalized. The construction of Dimona’s first emergency medical treatment center and the education campus in Sde Boker are part of this extraordinary social investment legacy. Along with her son, David Merage, Katherine was also an early supporter of Ayalim, a movement led by young adults to create villages in the Negev where college students can live and serve their communities. The seed funding and leadership of Katherine and her family resulted in this multi-million dollar public-private venture with sustained impact.
In addition to being a champion of the Negev region, Mrs. Merage is also dedicated to supporting Israeli immigrants. Through the Iranian Olim project, newcomers receive education and other assistance to adapt to Israeli society and help prepare them for a bright and productive future in their new homeland.
Katherine, an energetic mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, has become an inspiration and role model to her family, who continue the tradition of philanthropy through the generations. The impact of the Merage family is felt by millions of people, across various sectors of need, throughout the U.S. and the world.
