Patrick Block Attends Oregon Innocence Project’s Launch Party and Benefit as an Innocence Champion
Portland, OR (PRWEB) April 15, 2014 -- On April 9, 2014, Attorney Patrick L. Block attended a launch party and benefit hosted by the Oregon Innocence Project (OIP). In order to thank Attorney Block for his significant support of the OIP in the past, the organization honored him as an “Innocence Champion.”
Before the event the OIP arranged an invitation only meet-and-greet for the Innocence Champions where they could meet with the speaker and others who share the same objectives: to make a difference and support the innocence movement.
The Oregon Innocence Project’s anticipated start date was April of 2014. The OIP is a joint project of the Metropolitan Public Defender Services, along with the Oregon Justice Resource Center. Its mission is to (1) exonerate the innocent who have been convicted of crimes they did not commit, (2) educate law students, and (3) spearhead legal reform that is aimed at preventing wrongful convictions.
The OIP will be the only program in Oregon whose sole purpose is to actively watch for inmates’ claims that they are innocent, to investigate those claims of innocence, to test DNA and other corroborating evidence, and to litigate accordingly.
In essence, the OIP dedicates its efforts to securing the release of wrongfully convicted inmates, while providing an exceptional learning experience for those students involved in the Project.
