Toledo Symphony and Mercy Announce Return of Music Under the Stars for Summer 2014 at the Toledo Zoo
Toledo, OH (PRWEB) June 26, 2014 -- The Toledo Symphony is pleased to announce the return of Music Under the Stars for July and August of 2014.
For over 60 years, Music Under the Stars with the Toledo Concert Band has been creating family memories at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheater.
Thanks to the generosity of sponsoring and supporting partners, Music Under the Stars will continue to be a beloved summer pastime. Mercy is proud to be lead sponsor of the series. Music Under the Stars is also presented by The Andersons and supported by Huntington Bank, The Taylor Automotive Family, Healthcare REIT, WLMB, Dana and the Toledo Zoo.
The series will run for four consecutive July and August Sundays at 7:30pm, July 20 through August 10. As always, concerts will occur at the Toledo Zoo Amphitheatre. Seating is first-come, first-serve. Guest artists this year include Glass City Steel, The Off Broadway Dance Company, students from the Toledo Symphony School of Music and The Ballet Theatre of Toledo.
Additionally, the Symphony is pleased to announce that TARTA will continue its popular "Stars Shuttle" this summer. TARTA will provide a shuttle to the event (similar to the Mud Hens "Muddy Shuttle") from several regional locations. Cost to use the shuttle is $1 per person each way. Locations for pick-up and drop-off are listed below.
Two conductors will be featured this season--Robert Mirakian and Bruce Moss. Both conducted Music Under the Stars last year. Mr. Moss will conduct on the 20th and 27th of July, and Mr. Mirakian will conduct the 3rd and 10th of August.
The first concert on July 20th is titled "Oh, The Places You'll Go!" and will be conducted by Bruce Moss.
The themes for each week are:
July 20 - Oh, The Places You'll Go!
July 27 - Be Happy
August 3 - Fairest Isles: Great British Bandworks
August 10 - Music of Stage and Screen
"We applaud the financial partnership of our corporate and community sponsors that keeps these lively performances a beloved summer tradition," says Kathleen Carroll, President and CEO of the Toledo Symphony.
"Free access to anyone who wants to hear music in such a lovely outdoor setting is a tremendous gift to the community," she added.
"By offering free family-oriented events for the public to enjoy; not one but two, local treasured gems, the music of the Toledo Symphony at the venue of the Toledo Zoo not only enriches lives, it truly enhances the overall health and well-being of the community. Mercy is proud to be the title sponsor once again for this years’ Music Under the Stars concerts," said Imran Andrabi, M.D., Chief Operating Officer, Mercy.
"We are delighted to support great family entertainment opportunities such as Music Under the Stars. What could be more enjoyable than to spend a warm summer evening outside, with friends and family being serenaded by such great music? I can't think of anything better," says Richard P. Anderson, Chairman Emeritus of the Andersons, Inc.
“The Zoo is proud to welcome Music under the Stars back to the Zoo for another season,” Jeff Sailer, the Toledo Zoo’s executive director, said. “The partnership between the Zoo, the Toledo Symphony and our generous sponsors has enabled community residents to enjoy these free Sunday evening concerts for more than 50 years. We’re looking forward to another great concert season!”
