Look for The Big Blue Bin

Our goal is to make everyday Earth Day.

(PRWEB) April 16, 2014

Northwest Center is raising awareness about Earth Day and the benefits of donating reusable goods with its April Big Blue Closet Clean Out celebration. Throughout the month, local businesses are partnering with the local non-profit to host clothing collection containers for residents to drop off their used clothing and household items.

In addition, Northwest Center has also dramatically increased the number of community clothing donation bins throughout the Puget Sound area to offer residents drop-off opportunities 24-7 in their own neighborhoods. The iconic Big Blue Bins can be found near grocery stores, gas stations, apartments and other local establishments. To find a drop off location near you, visit http://www.bigbluetruck.org or call 800-992-2060.

“Our goal is to make it Earth Day, every day,” says Jean Kantu, VP of Community Engagement at Northwest Center. “Our average clothing donor re-purposes 345 lbs. of clothing each year, and in doing so, participates in a dual virtuous cycle that protects the environment while also creating local opportunities and support services for children and adults with disabilities.”

On a global scale, Northwest Center donors divert more than 12 million tons of cloth from landfills annually, as well as five million tons of household hard goods. The donated goods translate into program services that help more than 1,100 local families annually.

Northwest Center offers essential support to people with developmental disabilities at all stages of life through early intervention, inclusive classrooms, employment services and jobs. When people of all abilities learn and work together, everyone benefits.
