London, United Kingdom (PRWEB) April 22, 2014
Professionals working in the Intellectual Property sector can now get a clearer understanding of their worth thanks to boutique recruiter Fellows and Associates, who have recently released the results of their third annual Salary Survey. “Salaries in this industry can be notoriously unclear” explains Michele Fellows who orchestrated the survey. “Professionals tend to stay with the same firm throughout their training and only begin considering a move once they have qualified, usually when they are around 4 to 5 years into the profession. It can be difficult for them to get an idea of whether they are earning similar to those working at other firms and so we hope that our survey can help alleviate this problem.”
The survey was made available to participants through an online portal which was promoted via the websites of Fellows and Associates, their sponsor The Patent Lawyer magazine and the professional body of Intellectual Property professionals, CIPA. Further awareness was encouraged through social media channels, such as Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. “We are strong advocates of new media and invest heavily in our on line presence, something we hope has added to the success of this year’s survey and the increase in participants from previous years.” Phillipa Field, consultant, enthuses. “We have seen a steady increase in followers across both Twitter and Google+, as well as increased visibility though web searches. Our business model is very much of an international focus and so how we present our brand on line is key to maintaining our current work portfolio, as well as our future success in the IP industry.”
The importance of the international focus of their business will be evident next month when the Fellows and Associates team attend the International Trademark Association’s Annual Meeting in Hong Kong. “Of course we have had ad hoc projects based further afield but our client base to date has been predominantly located in the UK. However we are beginning to see a significant increase in instructions based in Europe and the US.” Pete Fellows, Managing Director at Fellows and Associates explains. “For example we have a growing relationship with leading IP administrative firm Valipat who we are assisting with their active recruitment needs in Brussels and the US. We hope to grow this area of our business and be viewed as a firm that offers a multidimensional service to their clients, including our website and, of course, the Salary Survey.”
The results of the Salary Survey have been made available on the Fellows and Associates website and the team are happy to provide hard copies of the results to those who are interested. Michele has listened to the feedback following previous surveys and hopes that that this year’s offering is the most informative yet. “I was keen to hear suggestions following the release of the survey in 2013 and was lucky enough to sit down with a Practice Director of a leading London based firm in order to discuss their thoughts and hear their ideas on how it could be improved. A concern that was raised from different sources was that the information could tend to get lost in the volume of graphs used and that the most sought after facts, for example salary ranges at different levels of seniority, were simply not included. I hope that the Salary Survey 2014 is reflective of this feedback and IP professionals regard it as a useful tool when trying to understand their market value.”
