The Illinois Chiropractic Association Will Sponsor The First POWER Play in Sports SAFE Gameplan© Certification Program
Rockville MD (PRWEB) April 19, 2014 -- Driven by the need to raise awareness and ensure the protection and safety of youth participants in sports, especially those sports that put players at risk for collisions and traumatic brain injury, Dr. Alan Sokoloff, the team chiropractor for the Baltimore Ravens, Dr. Spencer Baron, the team chiropractor for the Miami Dolphins and Dr. Jay Greenstein, team chiropractor for the Washington Redskins Cheerleaders went to work to build a community awareness program that took over two years to complete.
What they created was program of community workshops called the POWER Play in Sports SAFE Gameplan©. This program is designed for coaches, trainers, athletes, parents and children that will improve the safety and well-being of our nation’s youth.
“We are committed to ensuring the health and safety of the youth athlete through prevention and recognition. The S.A.F.E. program is literally, “Supporting Athletes and Families through Education,” states Sokoloff.
A study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine reported that key messages from published concussion management guidelines have not reached community sports coaches and sports trainers.
“We felt that this needed to be readdressed to maximize the safety of all of those involved in community sports, which is why we’ve taken the lead to build out these important public health workshops, ” said Greenstein, CEO of Sport and Spine Rehab Companies in the Washington DC metro area.
On May 22, in Chicago, the Illinois Chiropractic Association will sponsor the first POWER Play in Sports SAFE Gameplan© Certification Program that will certify other Chiropractors to deliver these programs and allow them to bring the message to their local communities.
The program will provide the doctor of chiropractic with four workshop topics. Each workshop is designed to be taught individually or together. The education provided delivers the cutting edge, research based, healthcare techniques that cross all disciplines and sports developed by Greenstein, Baron, and Sokoloff. The four essential categories for each of the areas that will be addressed in the community workshops are:
Module 1: Concussion Prevention and Recognition
Module 2: Dehydration and Heat Related Conditions
Module 3: Nutrition in Sports
Module 4: Musculoskeletal Injury Prevention and Maximizing Performance
In addition Professional Development Modules will be offered:
Module 5: Developing Strong Community Relations
Module 6: Step by Step Implementation Strategies
