“This is a riff coming off from a G7 chord,” says MacLennan. “This is just a nice way to solo with chords and you might learn some new chord voicing’s at the same time.” Jon demonstrates this cool blues lick as follows; first is the 2nd finger on the 3rd fret of the 6th string, 2nd fret of the 4th string with first finger and the 4th fret of the 3rd string with 4th finger, which is a G6 chord, and then he slides his first finger up one half step to make it a G7 chord. Next is a G chord played 3rd finger on the 7th fret of the 6th string, 5th fret of the 4th string with first finger and 7th fret of the 3rd string with 4th finger and then he adds his 2nd finger to the 6th fret of the 3rd string to make it a G7. Next is a G13 played with 8th fret of the 5th string with 2nd finger, 9th fret of the 4th string with 3rd finger and 9th fret of the 3rd string with 4th finger and then he does a pull-off with his 4th finger to the 7th fret of the 3rd string with his first finger. Jon continues playing through several more chord voicing’s that he says all work really well over a blues in G7. Complete guitar TAB’s are available for this video blues guitar lesson at
