Indoor Cycling Instructors Can Now Add Virtual Cycling to Their Classes
Pittsburgh, PA (PRWEB) April 23, 2014 -- Cycling Fusion, a leader in indoor and outdoor cycling technology, announced today that Apple’s iTunes store has recently approved the first indoor cycling application that integrates virtual cycling video segments with the traditional audio or music played.
Shortly after the iPod became the device of choice for Spinning® and Indoor Cycling instructors, the Class Builder® app was developed as a tool to pull music together with instructor notes and a visual display of the ride (or class) profile. Now, three years later, Class Builder®, is offering version 2.6, which features video segments ranging in length from 3 minutes to 28 minutes that are accessible via in-app purchases. Video segments range in price from $.99 to $5.99.
“Integrating virtual cycling segments has been part of the plan since we began building the Class Builder® app. One of the biggest hurdles we had to overcome was the music licensing. Our sister company Global Ride Productions has a unique approach to integrating music into their DVDs, with specific terrain and even the cadence of climbing all affecting what songs are used, and how they are timed in the editing process,” stated app architect Gene Nacey.
To overcome the music licensing issue, Cycle Fushion obtained the download license for all of the music provided within the app so the publishers and artists could be paid accordingly with each in-app purchase. According to Nacey, both Apple and the music provider will receive a share of each in-app download purchase.
Meeting an ever-increasing trend in health clubs, the newly-released in-app purchase option requires instructors teaching at health clubs or cycling studios to use projectors during their classes to connect to their iPod, iPad or iPhone. Video projectors and flat panel monitors in cycling rooms have been the latest addition to leading fitness facilities over the recent years.
Cycle Fusion understands that while other high tech multi-media companies continue to offer virtual classes in almost any discipline such as yoga or strength training to the fitness industry, not every club is ready to go that far. Using member accessible kiosks and video workout rooms instead of a traditional live instructor takes a substantial mental adjustment in perspective. Cycling Fusion developed the video segment option as a tool for indoor cycling instructors; ideally not to be used instead of an instructor. This practice could help bridge the current mental or visual gap between the status quo live instructor and one that is purely digital.
“We believe a 100% digital delivery of an indoor cycling ride, by an experienced master trainer, or a professionally edited virtual ride with an audible coaching track would certainly be a better option than cancelling class when an instructor is sick or can’t make a unique time slot. That being said, having the ability to bring a similar type of experience and excitement in the middle of a live class by your local instructor might make the experience even more real and motivational,” suggested Nacey.
Class Builder® version 2.6 is now available through iTunes for $19.95.
