Infinite Skills "SolidWorks Drawing Tools Tutorial" Teaches Unique Assembly-Based Drawing Procedure
(PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- Software training firm Infinite Skills Inc. this week introduced its "SolidWorks Drawing Tools Tutorial," a concise set of lessons designed to train experienced SolidWorks users in the unique features and tools used to create model drawings in this popular computer assisted design (CAD) and 3D modeling program.
SolidWorks is a CAD program that uses a parametric, feature-based assembly system for building mechanical models. It offers a unique method of creating drawings in which the drawing is extracted from the dimensions of the model, allowing users to control drawings through the assembly system itself.
Infinite Skills "SolidWorks Drawing Tools Tutorial" provides lessons covering all the tools and techniques for mastering the drawing pallet, and includes a chapter in preparation for SolidWorks certification in drawing tools.

Course author Dean Kerste is a college professor with more than a decade of experience in industrial design and more than twenty years experience as a professor of mechanical design technology. Kerste began his career as a draftsman, detailing large industrial combustion systems for power generation and transitioning them into natural gas distribution systems. After working as a CAD operator and systems administrator, Kerste began pursuing a career in academics. He holds multiple degrees, including a bachelor's in industrial design and a doctorate in high education.
Kerste begins by providing an overview of the drawing process and its fundamental elements. He walks students through the drawing environment and navigation tools, and shows the various views available.
From there, the course moves into more advanced topics in views, showing how to work in the assembly and broken-out sections, use alternate position views, and work with scale and alignment.
Next, Kerste demonstrates the essential tools for creating drawing annotations, going in depth with annotating dimensions, and covering advanced tools such as adding weld symbols and hole callouts, annotating datum with the feature and target symbols, and working with geometric tolerance.
Other chapters cover working with tables and using drawing templates. The course closes with a chapter preparing students for the certification exam in SolidWorks drawing.
"SolidWorks allows you to create 2D drawings from 3D models and link those drawings to the model so that your drawings automatically update," Kerste explains. "Having drawings and models linked in this way makes the entire drawing process more efficient."
