Nonprofit Hope For The Warriors Grants Wish to North Carolina Purple Heart Recipient
Jacksonville, NC (PRWEB) April 25, 2014 -- Hope For The Warriors® is proud to grant A Warrior’s Wish® to Sgt. Joseph Pledger, USMC (Ret.) that will support his new offshore charter fishing business. Hope For The Warriors® will provide Pledger with updated equipment to further develop his business and provide support within the fishing community. Pledger’s Wish was one of 12 Wishes granted in 2014 by Hope For The Warriors®, a national nonprofit dedicated to restoring a sense of self, restoring the family unit, and restoring hope for our service members and our military families.
Pledger, a Purple Heart recipient, served more than six years in the Marine Corps as an Infantry Mortarman, including a seven-month deployment to Iraq and six-month deployment to Afghanistan. Because of his combat, he is now living with PTSD, TBI, and paresthesia of the lower extremities. His wife and two children live with him in the Jacksonville area. Pledger turned to Hope For The Warriors® to aid him in further advancing his fishing business. Granting this Wish will benefit not only Pledger and his family, but other wounded service members too. It is very important to Pledger that his business also supports his fellow veterans.
“Being on the water provides me a sense of peace that I have been unable to find elsewhere,” Pledger said. “Because of Hope For The Warriors®, I am able to donate my time and resources so that others may experience the same sense of peace and tranquility I’ve found in fishing.”
Pledger established his fishing business in the area and soon thereafter began working with a mentor as requested by the A Warrior’s Wish® Selection Committee. In line with Pledger’s goal of offering support to veterans through his business, his mentorship provides him with additional guidance, resources, and networking opportunities to maximize his outreach within the community.
A Warrior’s Wish® supports the long-term goal of hope beyond recovery through financial grants. These Wishes fulfill a desire for a better quality of life or support a quest for life-gratifying endeavors. Knowing that Wishes can come true directly affects service members’ spirits in addition to the families and communities that support them. Whether realizing a dream to sail, ride a bike again, or own a home adapted to specialized needs, Hope For The Warriors® honors the goals and desires of wounded service members and their families.
