Celebrating Parenthood, Susan R. Rose Joins Cast of "Motherhood Out Loud" for Mother's Day Event
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- After thrilling audiences in 2013, For Giving Productions theater company will remount "Motherhood Out Loud," this time joined by Susan R. Rose. Rose, who conceived the show with Joan Stein, heard about the previous Santa Fe production and contacted director Janet Davidson to see if she could come and offer her insights to Santa Fe audiences. Davidson immediately accepted.
"Motherhood..." is a celebration of parenthood- a non-gender specific look at parenting from all generations. Called poignant and hilarious, "Motherhood" has been delighting audiences all over the globe. "Motherhood" is a series of monologues that will be performed by the For Giving ensemble just in time for Mother's Day weekend.
"Sometimes I watch the audience during a performance, and I see men and women nodding as they identify with the material — whether it is about the questions confronting a young mom, or the things that none of us want to say out loud until we realize that everyone else is feeling or has had the same unspoken thoughts. Everyone has a story, and everyone wants to be heard,” Stein said in an interview by Robin Gorman Newman. “Motherhood Out Loud encourages us to celebrate our similarities and our differences — and above all — to appreciate Motherhood, traditional or not — as the most rewarding, difficult and important contribution you can make to a person’s life."
Rose speaks to the challenges that many parents face, especially in Santa Fe, where artists juggle more than one job.
"Nothing prepares you for Motherhood. I didn’t grow up around a lot of babies and younger children. When my daughter was born, I had never changed a diaper,” Rose said. “I always wanted children, and having them was not easy, so when Sammi entered our lives, I really embraced Motherhood. I am a huge multi-tasker, but I found especially in the early years of raising a child, it is all-consuming and leaves little room for other pursuits … at least in my experience."
For Giving Productions provides Santa Feans with well performed plays that focus on strong female characters and themes- "Rapture, Blister, Burn," "Imagining Brad," "Love, Loss and What I Wore," "Good People," and most recently "Kimberly Akimbo," to name a few of the critically acclaimed shows in the ensemble's repertoire, and "Motherhood" will not disappoint. The cast includes Debrianna Mansini, Christopher Dempsey, Marika Sayers, Alaina Warren Zachary, Alisia Downing, and Kelly Kiernan, and will be directed by Janet Davidson.
The 2013 sold-out run of "Motherhood" was in The Space at Casweck Galleries. The Space is a flexible theater concept, developed by Debrianna Mansini, one of the cast members. This time, The Space is excited to be using the stage at the new Everyday Center for Spiritual Living on Fifth Street.
