ColoWrap Announces Initiation of Major Clinical Trial, Aims to Increase Colon Cancer Screening Rates and Improve Colonoscopy With Novel, Non-Invasive Device
Research Triangle Park, NC (PRWEB) April 24, 2014 -- Medical device start-up ColoWrap, LLC announced today the initiation of its prospective, randomized C3PO clinical trial, designed to evaluate the efficacy of the Company's ColoWrap Colonoscopy Binder in improving the performance and tolerance of colonoscopy. The 350-patient trial follows the recent release of promising findings from two pilot studies in which use of the ColoWrap was associated with significant reductions in colonoscopy length and difficulty, and improvements in procedure quality.
In addition to clinical endpoints, the C3PO trial will also examine the impact of ColoWrap use on patients’ colonoscopy experience. James Hathorn, ColoWrap Co-founder and CEO explained, “The goal here is to see if something as simple and benign as knowing you’ll have a ColoWrap for your colonoscopy could provide just enough of a confidence or momentum boost to get certain patients, patients with a fear of pain or embarrassment, over the hump such that they follow-through with the exam. This concept wasn’t something we’d really considered until lots of anecdotal patient feedback started piling up and we thought, hey, maybe there is something here we’re not seeing. Patients really like the way the ColoWrap feels. They want to take it home.”
The trial also represents a significant milestone for gastroenterologist Dr. Marybeth Spanarkel and James and John Hathorn, her two entrepreneur sons. The brothers co-founded ColoWrap, LLC in 2011 after Dr. Spanarkel challenged them to develop a simple, non-invasive solution to prevent looping during colonoscopy.
ColoWraps are the first and only non-invasive, completely hands-free looping solution available today. In addition to research, the Company is currently engaged in preliminary sales and marketing activities. The Company will be promoting ColoWraps at the SGNA Annual Conference, held May 4-6, 2014 in Nashville, TN (booth # 328). Also, a second clinical trial evaluating the health economic impact of ColoWrap use is currently being planned.

About ColoWrap, LLC
ColoWrap, LLC is committed to reducing the incidence and impact of colorectal cancer by improving the experience of colonoscopy for patients and healthcare providers. The Company’s first product, the ColoWrap® Colonoscopy Binder™, is a non-invasive, single-use lower abdominal binder worn by patients undergoing colonoscopy. The ColoWrap’s unique design provides firm, comfortable pressure to the sigmoid colon to help prevent looping of the endoscope. This translates into proven reductions in insertion time and the need for manually-applied pressure or patient repositioning. This improves patient comfort and reduces the risk of work-related injuries experienced by endoscopy nurses and technicians. More information can be found at our website at http://www.colowrap.com.
