It seems like only yesterday. But 52 years have slipped by since the “cute Beatle” scored sudden super stardom after he appeared as part of the Beatles with their first hit “Love Me Do” in 1962.
It was then that Paul McCartney, along with boyhood pals George Harrison and John Lennon, and later Ringo Starr, set off Beatlemania for millions of unabashed Baby Boomers across America, and quickly became one of the most popular (and influential) acts in the history of rock and roll.
Today, the former Beatle, now 71, with 32 Number One hit singles to his numerous credits, is widely recognized as the greatest recording artist of all time. In addition, of course, he wrote and performed “Yesterday”, the most covered single ever in the history of music.
Plus, he’s still on tour and just released additional tickets to his North American dates to his ongoing Out There tour. After opening in Brazil last May, the global trek went on to play Europe, North America twice, and Japan in 2013.
This year’s tour opens in Uruguay on April 19 and travels to Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Japan, and South Korea before opening at the United Spirit Arena in Lubbock, Texas on June 14, 2014.
Next on the star’s slate are gigs in Dallas, Atlanta, Jacksonville, Nashville, Louisville, Albany, Pittsburgh, Chicago, Fargo, Lincoln, Kansas City, and Minneapolis. The wrap is currently set for the cavernous Candlestick Park in San Francisco on August 14, 2014.
“Paul McCartney tickets invariably sell out,” said Marta Ault at online ticket marketplace BuyAnySeat.com.
“Although many sections of his upcoming venues are already officially sold out, we still have the most complete and continuously updated inventory of tickets for fans to choose from online, along with a worry-free guarantee to protect their purchase,” added Ault.
“To access the complete selection of Paul McCartney tickets we now have available, customers can go to BuyAnySeat.com and search for Paul McCartney – then select their tickets.”
As with McCartney’s previous tours, this year’s effort will feature his band of over ten years, including Paul ‘Wix’ Wickens (keyboards), Rusty Anderson (guitar), Abe Laboriel Jr. (drums), and Brian Ray (bass/guitar). Plus, of course, fans can expect material from one of the most beloved catalogs in popular music, with the singer/songwriter performing songs spanning his entire career -- as a solo artist, member of Wings and, of course, The Beatles.
McCartney’s latest road trip also extends a streak of annual tours that goes back to 2009, when he broke a four-year road sabbatical with his 10-date Summer Live tour. The trek was followed by Good Evening Europe in 2010, the Up and Coming tour in 2010-11 and On the Run in 2011-12.
McCartney is also said to be putting the finishing touches on his first solo album since 2007′s Memory Almost Full, and is also expected to release an expanded edition of his 1976 live album, Wings Over America.
Guinness World Records describes McCartney as the "most successful composer and recording artist of all time," with 60 gold discs and sales of over 100 million albums and 100 million singles. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999, McCartney has written, or co-written 32 Number One singles on the Billboard Hot 100. His 1965 Beatles song “Yesterday” is the most covered song in history with over 2,200 recorded versions.
