Alliance for Women in Media Foundation announced today that Temple University student Krystan Lenhard, Class of 2014, is the recipient of The Loreen Arbus Foundation Focus on Disability Scholarship.

The Alliance for Women in Media Foundation engaged in a partnership with The Loreen Arbus Foundation to focus on the needs, achievements, contributions and stories of citizens with disabilities. The Loreen Arbus Foundation Focus on Disability Scholarship is to be given to aspiring student television and filmmakers.

This year’s theme is "My Voice, My Time." Ms. Lenhard submitted a creative writing piece focusing on the challenges and triumphs that come with living with a disability. “I am passionate about seeing people with disabilities become fully empowered and employed individuals,” said Lenhard in her award-winning essay. “We are pleased to recognize Krystan Lenhard for eloquently sharing her personal story about experiencing dystonic episodes that affect her ability to walk, and her aspiration to help others with disabilities during her career,” said Alliance for Women in Media Foundation Chair Kay Olin. “Our partnership with the Loreen Arbus Foundation allows us to support students like Krystan who create and deliver important messages to help improve the lives of others.”

“I am honored to be continuing for the 5th consecutive year, my focus on Disability Scholarships established to heighten awareness of the largest minority in the U.S.—people with disability,” said Loreen Arbus, President & CEO of the Loreen Arbus Foundation, and Loreen Arbus Productions, Inc. “It is of vital importance to continue to reach more student filmmakers and increase the likelihood they will focus on disability issues in their films.”
