Online retro fashion retailer, Atom Retro have responded to an increased demand for denim jackets by expanding their denim outerwear offer for summer 2014. A classic retro staple look, the western style denim jacket is a hot fashion trend for the coming season too.
Menswear buyer at Atom Retro, Alister Poulton says, "We’ve found the Western style denim jacket is making a comeback. That is to say it’s not just finding a home in the Retro and Vintage lovers wardrobe, it’s finding it’s home again on the high street. The Denim Jacket has a certain sartorial savoir-faire. The look of street wise, rock and roll yet with an air of sophistication. A versatile, unisex and timeless style with the durable denim construction invariably meaning a very long wardrobe life. In fact the only reason the one you bought at college might need upgrading is the sheer fact it no longer fits! ”
Key pieces in the Atom Retro collection include the new Madcap England’s ‘Marquee’ Denim Jacket in classic stonewash blue and a mod 1960s inspired pure white. Alister says, "The Marquee in white has proved to be a massive hit. It’s appealed to mods who like it’s clean and classic construction, it’s slim fit and the affinity it shares with icons of the 1960s such as Keith Moon and Steve Marriott."
Heritage denim brand, Lee also feature in the new denim jacket offer. The Lee Rider Denim Western jacket draws on Lee Jeans expertise in traditional workwear garments, a legacy that makes the Lee Rider primed for the modern arena. The Lee Slim Rider denim jacket taps into modern and contemporary fashion and style whilst drawing on the vast knowledge and heritage of one of the worlds foremost denim brands. The slim cut and durable denim has proved a big hit at Atom Retro. As Alister says, “We originally started with just the 'epic blue' Lee Rider jacket with had a hint of that washed out vibe whilst maintaining a vibrant blue classic denim look. The success of this colour led us to bring on other Lee Rider jackets both from their continuation range and from their seasonal injections. The clean black has gone down really well and the traditional indigo denim has worked for us too. The oxblood Lee Rider has added that little bit of colour."
The women's Lee Slim Rider Jacket has proved equally successful with the stylish chop pad blue colour way showing an impressive sell through at Atom Retro.
British denim brand, Pepe Jeans are another brand that have retro heritage, catering for both men and women. As Alister says: “Pepe Jeans have an illustrious heritage and their denim range is as one would expect reflective of this. Premium denim with great construction and stylish fits come together to create essential wardrobe staples. Pepe Jeans denim jackets have performed well for us thanks to their attention to detail. They tailor something that little bit different with stitching, washes and fit adding undoubted visual appeal."
Finally, away from the classic western denim jacket range, Atom Retro have completed the collection with a more unusual denim duffle coat from Gloverall. "We’ve also added a Gloverall denim toggle jacket to our offering for Spring/Summer," explains Alister. "Made in England and drawing on Gloverall’s duffle coat heritage, it’s something that little bit different for that Denim Jacket connoisseur."
