New Zealand company Biomatters Joins the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health
Auckland, New Zealand (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Biomatters is the first New Zealand company to join over 170 organizations forming the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health to progress the use of sequencing data in genomic medicine and applications to human health.
Biomatters will be working alongside healthcare providers, research funders and research institutions to ensure clinical data is shared responsibly, voluntarily and securely.
Over the coming weeks, Biomatters’ Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Chris Duran will be working to establish the role and contribution of the company within the Global Alliance. “Biomatters is committed to building modular solutions on cloud infrastructure, ultimately to be used in clinical situations,” says Dr. Duran. “I believe that the road to impactful and high-value clinical informatics begins with an open and trusted platform to build upon. The Global Alliance and its members are committed to solving this problem.”
For over a decade Biomatters has built and supported software for the analysis of sequence data, and is now adapting and advancing its technology stack in response to the production of large data sets generated from NGS technology.
“Biomatters has transformed itself from being a desktop-focused biotechnology software shop into a group with a wide spectrum of capabilities including bioinformatics-focused cloud infrastructure and targeted web applications. Through all of this we carry our desire of implementing beautiful, functional applications, no matter the technology used.”
Dr. Duran will be at the Biomatters exhibition booth at the 2014 Bio-IT World Conference & Expo in Boston from April 29 to May 1.
