All Veterans Memorial

When I’m working on these statues, it is very humbling to think that these men have sacrificed everything for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.

The North Beltrami County has announced they are creating an “All Veterans Memorial” in Kelliher, Minnesota. The memorial will be located along Highway 72 on the grounds of the Old School Center.

The memorial is a raised area that will have a life-size bronze statue of a kneeling Modern Soldier facing a composite battle cross, surrounded by six polished granite slabs, one for each branch of the service and the US Merchant Marines. Along the walkway around the memorial will be the footprints of a soldier's combat boots to add to the experience in helping visitors walk in the footsteps of a soldier. The surrounding area will have boulders, shrubs, a flag area and benches for visitors to relax and take a moment to think. The goal of this memorial is to be a place of healing and contemplation.

This will be a rather unique memorial and will be located in a prominent place on a busy highway. It will also be the only Veterans Memorial between Blackduck and Baudette.

The North Beltrami County has commissioned Big Statues, with Matt Glenn as the lead artist for this memorial. Glenn is always very humbled to get the opportunity to memorialize and honor those who have given their lives for this country. “When I’m working on these statues, it is very humbling to think that these men have sacrificed everything for the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.” With the help of Robert Hoyum, this memorial is well on its way.

The plan is to have the Memorial completed and ready for dedication later this year. Please contact Robert Hoyum from The Northern Beltrami Veterans Memorial Fund for more information on donating to this honorable monument.
