Anthony Fera Presented 2013 CFPA Specialist Trophy
Austin, TX (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Texas Longhorns kicker Anthony Fera was presented with the 2013 College Football Performance Awards Specialist Trophy during the Texas spring game on April 19, 2014. CFPA Executive Director Brad Smith was on hand to present the award at Darrell K. Royal - Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The 2013 CFPA Specialist Trophy was presented during a special halftime ceremony. Fera accepted the award to a standing ovation and posed for photos with his family and Texas mascot Hook 'Em.
Fera is the fifth Texas player to earn CFPA honors, following Earl Thomas (2009 CFPA Defensive Back Trophy), Sam Acho (2010 CFPA Defensive Lineman Trophy), Fozzy Whittaker (2011 CFPA Kickoff Returner Trophy), and Alex Okafor (2012 CFPA Elite Defensive Lineman Trophy).
"It's an amazing accomplishment. This trophy is ridiculous," said Fera. "I'm just thankful that everybody could be here today and celebrate this with me."
2013 CFPA Punt Returner Trophy:
North Carolina Tar Heels return specialist Ryan Switzer was presented with the 2013 College Football Performance Awards Punt Returner Trophy during the North Carolina spring game on April 12, 2014. CFPA Assistant Director Dr. Harold Smith was on hand to present the award at Kenan Memorial Stadium in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Dating back to 2008, Switzer is the ninth FBS punt return specialist to earn CFPA honors. Previous winners include: Javier Arenas (Alabama), Damian Williams (USC), Greg Reid (Florida State), Cliff Harris (Oregon), Patrick Peterson (LSU), Joe Adams (Arkansas), Tyrann Mathieu (LSU), and Giovani Bernard (North Carolina).
"I'm honored to be named the nation's top punt returner, although I'm not satisfied," said Switzer. "There's a lot more in store for me and this team in the coming years. I'm very excited to show my potential to you guys and the national audience."
Zach Hodges Earns CFPA Honors:
Harvard Crimson defensive end Zach Hodges earned recognition from the CFPA FCS Awards for his performance during the 2013 season. Hodges is the third Harvard player to earn CFPA honors, following Colton Chapple (2012 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy and 2012 CFPA FCS Quarterback Award) and Kyle Juszczyk (2011 CFPA FCS Elite Tight End Award).
Chapple was presented with the 2012 CFPA FCS National Performer of the Year Trophy during the Harvard vs. Yale men's basketball game on February 1, 2013 in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Juszczyk was a fourth-round selection for the Baltimore Ravens in the 2013 NFL Draft.
"It's truly a blessing. I'm very honored," said Hodges. "It's always good to be recognized amongst those who are the best at what they do. It doesn't get much higher than that."

The goal of College Football Performance Awards is to provide the most scientifically rigorous conferments in college football. Recipients are selected exclusively based upon objective scientific rankings of the extent to which individual players increase the overall effectiveness of their teams. Twenty-one CFPA winners have been first-round NFL Draft selections.
