ONE World Sports heads into NCTA: The Cable Show on a roll, following recent announcements of major new distribution, added world-class programming and expanded production capabilities at ONE World Sports Broadcast Center in Stamford, Connecticut.
The network, which offers coverage of sports events from around the globe, will showcase its programming at the annual trade show in Booth 2303 of the Los Angeles Convention Center.
“It’s been a year of significant growth on all fronts,” said Alexander “Sandy” Brown, president and CEO of ONE World Sports. “ONE World Sports’ launch as a global sports network for American sports fans is now reflected in a transformed programming model, top-notch HD production emanating from our domestic production facility and great affiliate traction. We intend to tell our story proudly and loudly at The Cable Show.”
On the distribution front, ONE World Sports recently announced carriage agreements both with Verizon FiOS and Hawaiian Telcom.
The latter multiyear, multiplatform agreement introduces ONE World Sports to TV sports lovers in Oahu and together with the multiyear, multiplatform pact with Verizon extends the global sports network’s reach by upward of 3 million homes in more than two dozen U.S. markets.
“We’re definitely gaining momentum in expanding our distribution,” said Randy Brown, executive vice president-distribution at ONE World Sports. “Providers are responding to our expanded programming mix, which appeals to young, globally savvy viewers across all platforms.”
On the programming front, ONE World Sports has announced club channel arrangements with the English Premier League’s Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC soccer teams, Bundesliga’s FC Bayern Munich and Serie A’s A.C. Milan. It also has initiated exclusive coverage of Europe’s Kontinental Hockey League. And most recently, it set plans to carry all home International matches of England’s national cricket team.
“We are focused on securing exclusive, multiplatform rights of the best-in-class, live-event global properties,” said Joel Feld, senior vice president of programming and executive producer at ONE World Sports. “A quick review of our program schedule shows our extensive offering of sports that appeal to American sports fans.”
Production strides include its new high-definition broadcast center in Stamford, which is now the hub of all the network’s production, programming and traffic activity. The network’s strong on-air branding campaign was recently recognized as the Winner of the Cynopsis Sports Media Awards’ Network Sports Branding Campaign.
An expanded roster of on-air American talent includes veteran announce teams for KHL, Chinese Basketball Association and Yomiuri Giants telecasts and for match coverage of the North American Soccer League’s New York Cosmos—the 2013 NASL Soccer Bowl Champions. The network is in its second season carrying the teams’ home games.
Also during the past year, the network has leveraged its multiplatform rights to launch its app Watch ONE World Sports, which features a robust offering of its exclusive events and highlights.
