The website, managed by the Iowa City Area Development Group, helps address misperceptions about life and careers in Eastern Iowa.

A diverse group of local employers in the Iowa City area are using a unique recruitment tool to help connect job seekers with opportunities at their companies. Since March, contracts for customized company pages on the website have jumped 43% according to DaLayne Williamson, Workforce Business Services Director for the Iowa City Area Development Group.

“Our employers are competing for talented workforce, including recruiting from outside our area, and helps tell the story of business and life in Iowa’s Creative Corridor,” said Williamson. “And, through customized pages, employers can provide a glimpse inside their culture and company.”

The Pick Your Pace website helps interstate commerce companies and large employers with workforce retention and attraction. The site works with all mobile and desktop devices, using videos, text, photos, links and a cost-of-living calculator to help job seekers explore career, living and social opportunities in Iowa’s Creative Corridor.

“Our region needs to continue promoting the great things happening here, and helps our clients and investors compete for talent and share what this region has to offer,” added Williamson.

Using its comprehensive content and platform, companies in a variety of industries including healthcare, software/IT, education, advanced manufacturing, avionics/defense, medical devices, and non-profits now have personalized messages to send to targeted recruits.

For example, the University of Iowa Foundation recently added a customized page to promote openings for executive director, director and coordinator level positions. International educational company Pearson recently updated its page, including new video content to advertise careers in education and IT.

And MetaCommunications, an Iowa City software company, is using its customized page to help promote new careers in a new, downtown location. "Our company is growing rapidly," says Robert T. Long, President of MetaCommunications. "Partnering with ICAD Group and its Pick Your Pace website initiative allows us to connect with top talent from Iowa City and around the state as we continue to add to our engineering and business teams."

Traffic on the website has matched local economic growth with overall usage up 82%, pageviews up 50% and logins up 60% over the same period last year.

The website launched in 2010 and is actively marketed to internal and external audiences, human resources groups, University of Iowa alumni and other state-wide alumni groups, fans of Iowa Hawkeye Athletics, and through statewide economic development publications.

The Iowa City Area Development (ICAD) Group, which manages the website, received a “Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award” for from the International Economic Development Council in 2012.
