In a staggering statistic, research has shown that three out of four Christian teens leave the church after they leave home. One major reason? The majority of young adults go off to college without understanding why Christianity is true and are challenged by atheism and skepticism advocated in higher education. Since 2006, the team at CrossExamined.org has been working to reverse this trend.
Founder Dr. Frank Turek (co-author of the bestselling book I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist), Executive Director Ted Wright (apologist and archeologist), and a team of over 125 instructors across North America present hard yet entertaining evidence for Christianity through dynamic, interactive seminars and debates at colleges, high schools, and churches.
“The new movie God’s Not Dead has alerted some Christians to the anti-Christian worldview advocated at most universities,” Dr. Turek observes. “But this is a real life problem that’s been going on for quite a while. A 2007 survey found that more than half of college professors view evangelical students unfavorably. I can’t say I blame them because most evangelical students can’t give a rational defense of their beliefs.”
Christian youth in America are being challenged to abandon their beliefs and most are ill-equipped for the challenge. They leave the church after high school and about half never return.
“The good news is that we can do something about it,” exclaims Dr. Turek. “In the universities we reach believers and unbelievers, but it’s best to inoculate young Christians and their parents before the students go off to college. We realize pastors are already overworked, so we assist them in training their congregations with the evidence.”
In the “I Don’t Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist” seminars and materials, students experience a progressive case for the truth of Christianity by examining four major questions: Does truth exist? Does God exist? Are miracles possible? And is the New Testament historically reliable?
Dr. Turek explains, “If the answer to those four questions is ‘yes’ then Christianity necessarily follows. When you see the evidence from science, philosophy, and history for each of those four questions, I think you’ll realize that it takes a lot more faith to be an atheist than a Christian.” This short video lays out this approach: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGCjwAmeNkE.
The detailed case for Christianity—and answers to the toughest objections to the Christian worldview—are unpacked in the book I Don't Have Enough Faith to be an Atheist (published by Crossway Books), and in a new DVD series called Why I Still Don’t Have Enough Faith to Be an Atheist (available at CrossExamined.org).
This weekend, Wright has been invited to participate in the God’s Not Dead Conference in Spring Valley, CA where he will bring clear, understandable evidence in the case for Christianity, and will respond directly to any skeptical claims. The God’s Not Dead Conference is free, and will take place at 7:00pm on Friday, May 2 at Encounter Youth. 9400 Campo Road, Spring Valley, CA 91977.
Since 2006, the non-profit CrossExamined.org has presented hard hitting yet entertaining evidence that Christianity is true to colleges, high schools and churches around the world. They also produce a weekly TV show on the NRB Network (DirecTV Channel 378), and a radio show/podcast, which airs on 122 stations each week (archived on the new CrossExamined app available at http://crossexamined.org).
