MEXICO CITY (PRWEB) April 30, 2014

Nicolas Borda, a shareholder in the Mexico City office of the international law firm Greenberg Traurig, is co-chairing the upcoming IEL-ANADE Conference taking place May 1-2, 2014 at the Westin Galleria in Houston, Texas. Also participating in the conference is Greenberg Traurig shareholder William Garner in the firm’s Houston office.

Titled “La Reforma - Mexico Enters the Global Oil and Gas Market,” the conference is presented by the Institute for Energy Law (IEL) of The Center for American and International Law and the Mexican National Association of Business Lawyers (ANADE).

The Mexican Congress is expected to receive the secondary energy laws this week, which will implement the constitutional amendments permitting foreign and private investment in Mexico’s oil and gas industry. Senior Mexican government and Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) officials will be in attendance to discuss the new legal framework. More than 100 participants are expected to attend.

Borda, Chair of the ANADE Energy Committee and a member of Greenberg Traurig’s Global Energy & Infrastructure practice, will also be moderating a panel on the challenges for the development of the new Mexican Oil and Gas Regime. He will focus on the upstream, midstream and downstream regulatory issues and the new model contracts to be issued by the Ministry of Energy. Garner, also a member of the Global Energy & Infrastructure practice, will speak about North American oil and gas integration and the impact from and to Mexico under the 2013 Constitutional Energy Reform.

Other conference topics will include:

  • Nuts and bolts of Mexico’s Apertura
  • New fiscal regime – is it worth your investment?
  • Comparison with other international players
  • New roles of the regulatory agencies
  • Will familiar international standard contracts work?
  • The big picture – North American oil and gas integration
