What’s in Your Multivitamin? Could It Be Harming You?
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 06, 2014 -- “For over 20 years in the industry I have been an advocate on formulating a multivitamin with efficacious levels of critical nutrients based on science. On top of this, I have been a voice warning about the dangers of harmful chemicals such as Copper, Titanium Dioxide in most of the multivitamin formulations on the market. I am happy to see the scientific community finally helping to educate the public on this danger.” ~ Wayne Gorsek, Founder, CEO & Chief Product Architect at DrVita.com
Based on a recent survey conducted by DrVita.com, the number one reason why people stop taking a multivitamin is a lack of compliance.
“It’s no wonder people stop taking their vitamins, there is very little in the current multivitamins on the market that can offer any meaningful benefits.” - Wayne Gorsek, Founder, CEO & Chief Product Architect at DrVita.com
Three Easy Ways to Determine Whether You Are Buying the Right Multivitamin
Look for the Vitamin D3. Vitamin D3 is the natural form of Vitamin. Numerous studies from the medical community have shown the increasing benefits of Vitamin D3, from bone & teeth health, immune support, joint & skin and many others. The science community agrees that to receive the benefits of Vitamin D3, a person requires 4,000 IU or more a day. The typical multivitamin on the market will contain between 400 IU and 1000 IU. This critical nutrient continues to show promise, yet the popular multivitamins on the market offer far too little to make a difference in health.
The second crucial nutrient to look for on the back of the label is Vitamin B-12. It’s important to find a multivitamin that contains the Methyl B-12 Active form, not the B-12 Cyanide based form. Methyl B-12 is an outstanding ingredient that supports Energy & Cellular health, to name a few. Two issues emerge in the current crop of popular Multivitamins. The first issue is most companies do not use the proper active form of B12, instead they are relying on the cheap Cyanide version, which has been shown in clinical research to be poorly absorbed and not as effective. Again it’s important for the consumers to look for the levels of the right nutrient. A proper multivitamin should contain a minimum of 500 mcg of Methyl B-12. Most popular multivitamins on the market contain only 6 mcg of the poorly absorbed form.
The third thing to look for are harmful ingredients that do not belong in a multivitamin. A 2008 study conducted by researchers from the University of Miami School of Medicine and published in the journal Laboratory Investigation confirms that copper produces both oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction in the nervous system. This may partially explain copper's role in brain diseases ranging from Alzheimer's to Wilson's disease (a genetic condition characterized by copper accumulation in tissues, liver disease and neurological or psychiatric dysfunction) and even prion conditions such as mad cow disease.
More recently, researchers from the University of Rochester found that even ordinary dietary doses of copper may directly contribute on multiple levels to the development of Alzheimer's disease. They found that copper induces inflammation in the brain, damages the blood-brain barrier (making it more difficult for the brain to flush out toxic materials) and encourages the brain to form clumps of toxic amyloid beta proteins.
These three simple checks can empower the consumer to pick a Multivitamin that actually works:
- Vitamin D3 4,000 IU or more
- Methyl B-12 500 mcg or more
- Copper Free
