Klatch Coffee, the award-winning coffee roaster in Southern California, has won another championship. Coffee Guru, Todd Goldsworthy, has won the title of United States Brewers Cup Champion.
The Specialty Coffee Association of America held “The Event” in Seattle this past weekend where the United States finalists were determined. The Brewers Cup is a competition that celebrates manual brewing and Todd qualified by winning the regional Southwestern Brewers Cup in February and will now represent the United States this coming June in Rimini, Italy.
Adding to the suspense, the final competitors came down to two Todd’s; Todd Goldsworthy of Klatch Coffee and Todd Carmichael of Travel Channel’s Dangerous Grounds. In the end, the amazing coffee and solid presentation by Todd Goldsworthy earned him a convincing victory.
The coffee used to win Brewers Cup was Esmeralda Trapiche Geisha from the Peterson family in Panama sourced via Klatch Coffee’s direct trade model specifically for the competition. “It is because of our direct trade relationships with farmers from around the world that we were able to sample the best new crops and select this great coffee,” says Mike Perry, owner and Roastmaster of Klatch Coffee.
Todd first joined the coffee industry when he was 19 years old as a barista for Starbucks. He spent 10 years moving through the ranks but found the environment too corporate. It was at this time he found his home with Klatch Coffee.
When asked about his strategy for the upcoming world competition, Todd remarked “I am going back to the drawing board and am open to all coffees and brewing methods.” Todd’s method of trial and error for perfection is a reflection of Klatch Coffee’s standard quality through training and education.
