Give a Buck for Special Equestrians Saddles Up with Bright's Creek to Support Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center
Miami, FL (PRWEB) May 02, 2014 -- On Friday, May 2, Give a Buck for Special Equestrians, a Florida-based charity, and Bright’s Creek, a Western North Carolina family mountain golf and equestrian community, will give a leg up for children and adults in the area with disabilities, when they collaborate to launch the first North Carolina chapter of Give a Buck for Special Equestrians to benefit Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center.
An all volunteer organization with five chapters throughout Florida, Give a Buck raises funds and awareness for therapeutic riding programs for adults and children with disabilities. Inspired by horsepower that heals, Give a Buck asks horse owners - to give as little as a buck or as much as they can - with each month’s stable rent to pay forward all of the joys horses have brought to their lives. Give a Buck also provides funding through apparel sales at tack stores and at equestrian events.
Bright’s Creek developers and passionate horsemen, Omar Botero and Gilberto Iragorri, and partner Pasquale Giordano, are sponsoring Give a Buck in North Carolina to benefit Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center. Proceeds from Bright’s Creek’s first annual Denim and Diamonds Gala, to be held at the Bright’s Creek Equestrian Center, located at 2222 Palmer Rd., Mill Spring, NC on May 2, will benefit Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center, a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization offering therapeutic riding to children and adults with disabilities who are residents of Yancey, Mitchell, Madison, Buncombe, and Avery counties in North Carolina.
Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center, a PATH International (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International) Premier Accredited Center, is located on 15 acres in the South Toe River Valley and enables up to 45 special needs children to ride horses every year. Riders are able to conquer the challenges associated with their disabilities, and are empowered with a sense of pride, accomplishment and independence. Individuals suffering from developmental delays, cerebral palsy, cognitive impairments, autism, head injury, and stroke have all benefited from the Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center programs.
“We are thrilled to be able to support the good work of Appalachian Therapeutic Riding Center,” says Sissy DeMaria, Founder and President of Give a Buck for Special Equestrians. “Give a Buck is such a simple way for the equine community to give back for all of the joys that horses have brought to our lives. We are so very grateful to our sponsor Bright’s Creek for helping us establish our first chapter outside of Florida and look forward to expanding our reach throughout North Carolina.”
Bright’s Creek, located on 4700 acres in Western North Carolina, supports a number of equine events throughout the year, including horse shows, steeplechase races and polo matches on and off property. Botero and Iragorri have owned horses since childhood. Growing up on farms, they wanted to instill the joys of horsemanship and the sporting and equestrian lifestyle to the next generation of families at Bright’s Creek.
“Equine therapy has been shown to increase physical coordination, mental attentiveness, general confidence, and quality of life for disabled people. As developers and horse lovers we are delighted to help Give a Buck with its very worthy mission,” says Omar Botero.
Bright’s Creek, a sponsor of the annual Block House Steeplechase on May 3, will have a tent where visitors and guests can learn more about the charity.
