BOULDER, Colo. (PRWEB) May 01, 2014

The NPD Group, a global information company, has announced Jim Kelley, the former President of Leisure Trends, has been named President, Sports and Leisure Trends. Kelley will remain in Boulder, headquarters for NPD’s Sports business.

In November 2013, The NPD Group acquired Leisure Trends, the Boulder-based leader in market research for the sports and recreation industries, significantly expanding its existing Sports business, retail partnerships, and industry expertise. The combined businesses now provide the most comprehensive view of the sports, outdoor, and recreation marketplace. Together, they track retail sales and consumer trends across apparel, footwear, and equipment for running, outdoor, fitness, cycling, and snow sports categories.

Kelley joined Leisure Trends in 2009 as Vice President of Consumer Research and built an industry-leading custom consumer research team focused on the sports, recreation, and fitness industry. Kelley’s role quickly expanded into Chief Operating Officer.

“The NPD Group is creating a new entity that's greater than the sum of its parts, with the largest POS footprint in the industry – over 26,000 stores – and the capacity to provide new solutions for the sports industry through new categories and additional channel views in the U.S. and worldwide,” said Dennis Brown, President, Americas Commercial Business for NPD. “Jim Kelley brings a wealth of analytical, strategic, and marketplace knowledge, which will be invaluable as we build upon the combined strengths of both companies.”

The management team assisting Jim Kelley with the Sports business includes Joe Hachemeister, Executive Director, Client Development; Julia Clark Day, Executive Director, Business Development and Jason Gee, Director, Operations.

“I look forward to leading the combined NPD and Leisure Trends team, providing clients the most comprehensive view of retail sales in the U.S. sports marketplace, as well as other solutions that will allow them to drive better business decisions throughout their organizations,” said Jim Kelley.
