Boca Raton, FL (PRWEB) May 05, 2014
In the latest blow from a days-long chain of severe weather across the South and Midwest, the Florida Panhandle and Alabama Gulf Coast were hit with widespread flooding early Wednesday, with people stranded in cars and homes waiting for rescuers to find a way around impassable roads and others abandoning vehicles to walk to safety. Florida Governor Rick Scott declared a state of emergency for 26 counties.
“There’s been a surge in flash flooding during the first four months of 2014 and an increase in heavy rainfall,” said Randy Schleger, CEO of All Risk Insurance Group, Inc. in Boca Raton. “In addition to that, hurricane season is around the corner and now is the time to make sure our clients and residents are properly protected.”
According to the National Weather Service, "historically heavy rains" are sweeping through Florida, closing schools, flooding roads and snarling traffic throughout the region. The widespread flooding is the latest wallop of a storm system that still packed considerable punch days after the violent outbreak began in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
“Flood insurance is critical,” said Schleger of All Risk Insurance Group, Inc. “It provides protection for destruction and financial devastation caused by floods.” Flood coverage safeguards against losses that result from heavy and lengthy rain falls, storm surges, blocked storm drainage systems and other water related damage. Homeowners insurance does not typically cover floods. “We are urging Florida homeowners without flood insurance to consider getting coverage, especially with hurricane season approaching, it’s just too risky.”
