The Erlang User Conference reaches its 20th anniversary
Stockholm, Sweden (PRWEB UK) 12 May 2014 -- The largest annual event dedicated to Erlang, star programming language of 2014, is back for its 20th edition. The conference will take place on 9-10 June 2014 in Stockholm, followed by a day of tutorials on the 11th June and training courses on 11-13 June.
The record acquisition of WhatsApp by Facebook raised interest in Erlang, the ‘secret sauce’ in WhatsApp’s success recipe. With only 32 engineers in their core team, the app serves more than 465 million users and supports over 40 billion in-bound messages and 19 billion out-bound messages every day.
The Erlang User Conference will be the best place in Europe to find out about Erlang and why it is the perfect fit not only for WhatsApp, but also for payment companies like Klarna, telecoms giant Ericsson, gaming companies such as Machine Zone and Spilgames, electronic commerce company Rakuten, Basho - makers of the Riak database, ads re-targeting platform AdRoll and many other companies.
The two-days conference will feature over 50 talks organised on 8 tracks and will have an expected attendance of 350 developers, system architects and project managers. Some of the best functional programming experts will share their experience at the event. Stuart Bailey, CTO and Founder of Infoblox and Katie Miller, OpenShift Developer Advocate and Co-founder of Lambda Ladies will deliver the keynotes. The event will also feature ‘Seven Languages in Seven Weeks’ author Bruce Tate, Co-designer of Haskell and QuickCheck John Hughes, O’Reilly author Erik Stenman, Ericsson Erlang/OTP Manager Kenneth Lundin, Machine Zone Chief Architect Francois Orsini, Rakuten Lead Technologist Yosuke Hara, Feuerlabs Co-founder and Developer Advocate Ulf Wiger and many more.
During the conference, the ‘Erlang User of The Year’ trophy will also be awarded to one member of the community recognised for their outstanding contributions to the Erlang language. Last year’s winner was Loïc Hoguin, main author of the Cowboy, Bullet, Sheriff and Farwest projects. The Erlang User of The Year trophy started being awarded on 1995, at the second Erlang User Conference.
“The conference is one of the most beloved traditions of the Erlang community, and it is a great honour for Erlang Solutions to organise this event, especially as in 2014 it reaches its 20th edition. This has been a great year for Erlang. Its popularity has been growing constantly as the language finds more applications in online betting/gambling, ad serving, online news sites and banking. Besides great success stories like WhatsApp, new languages running on the Erlang VM such as Elixir and LFE are opening the ecosystem to new users.” - said Francesco Cesarini, Founder and Technical Director of Erlang Solutions - the conference organisers.
