LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2014

This nomination shows that the firm has gone above and beyond its Legal Aid commitments and is peerless in its commitment to enabling access justice for all. All credit goes to the Firm and the members of staff involved in all Pro Bono activities.

London, United kingdom (PRWEB UK) 6 May 2014

Duncan Lewis Solicitors have been shortlisted for an award in the LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2014 under the category “Best contribution by a law firm”.

As the only Legal Aid firm nominated, Duncan Lewis will be up against several other high-profile law firms in competition for the award that recognises and celebrates outstanding contribution to Pro Bono work by the winning firm.

Throughout 2014 Duncan Lewis have demonstrated a continuing commitment to Pro Bono work, which has culminated in them being recognised as the LawWorks Firm of the Month in February. This prestigious award is in recognition of their ongoing Pro Bono work and support of the Solicitors Pro Bono Group.

The firm also launched their Pro Bono clinic in association with LawWorks Cymru in March which operates on a weekly basis from Duncan Lewis’ Cardiff branch and offers Pro Bono advice in the areas of housing, welfare benefits, family, child care, landlord & tenant, community care and public law which are supported by specialist directors, solicitors and trainee solicitors. Members of the public seeking legal advice in these areas are urged to attend the free sessions where they can receive advice from qualified and accredited solicitors at no charge.

Furthermore, Duncan Lewis’ Dalston drop-in legal surgery saw an outstanding volume of client turnout on Tuesday 22nd April with many vulnerable clients leaving with expert solicitation and hope regarding their varied legal issues.

Duncan Lewis also support numerous other Pro Bono activities: ‘Rights for Women’ Charity where Duncan Lewis Women Solicitors provide telephone advice for women; fortnightly social welfare & family law legal clinic at the offices of ‘Turkish Cypriot Women’s Association’ (TCWA) in Haringey where Turkish speaking women lawyers provide advice to the women’s organisation; ‘Lewisham Reach’ supported by lawyers from Duncan Lewis Lewisham office in which the outreach service looks to target help for 21 – 55 year olds living in the Borough; Duncan Lewis Dalston lawyers support the University of East London Legal Clinic; numerous other CAB’s & legal clinics supported by Duncan Lewis lawyers and Pro Bono committee members.

Younes Ech-Chadli, member of the Duncan Lewis Pro Bono Committee added:

"This nomination from LawWorks is recognition of the continuing commitment of Duncan Lewis Solicitors to 'Giving people a voice' through its Pro Bono activities. This has been brought to the fore by the unprecedented changes to Legal Aid, which has had the effect of denying many vulnerable individuals their fundamental right to access justice. This nomination shows that the firm has gone above and beyond its Legal Aid commitments and is peerless in its commitment to enabling access justice for all. All credit goes to the Firm and the members of staff involved in all Pro Bono activities."

The LawWorks Pro Bono Awards 2014 will be held at the Royal College of Surgeons on Wednesday 11th June. If you would like to reserve tickets please get in touch with Anne Monk on anne(dot)monk(at)lawworks(dot)org(dot)uk or by phone; 020 7092 3941.
