Madison Media Institute (MMI) will be offering Saturday sessions in Filmmaking during the month of June. Topics include how to create a film company, how to write and pitch a screenplay, film makeup and set design. The seminars are from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on June 14th, 21st and 28th. The film industry in Wisconsin continues to grow through independent filmmaking. The circles of independent filmmakers in the state are committed but lacking in resources to be truly successful. MMI’s goal is to develop stronger networking opportunities and infrastructure for anyone who is interested in developing their career in film.
On June 14th, Barnaby Kerr and Chris Johnson will demonstrate how to start your own film company. Barnaby Kerr has been a Producer in Los Angeles for 15 years and now lives in Madison, Wisconsin. He has set up several types of production companies and will relay the various options for a film business. Chris Johnson owns Johnsonese Brokerage. He will discuss how production insurance is part of the fabric of doing a film whether it is small or large.
On June 21st, Screenwriter Christopher Foley will show attendees how to develop a screenplay. He is a graduate of the USC Masters film program. Jeff Pohorski will talk about the art of the pitch. Jeff has had extensive experience with pitching films at the annual Los Angeles Pitch Fest.
On June 28th, Art Director Cyndee Sweetland will show how to design a look for your film, then Alex Falk and Candi Robbins will demonstrate how to develop make up for horror films.
