Sporting Kansas City today presented team members and staff with 2013 MLS Cup Championship Rings at a special ceremony today at Sporting Park. Created by Jostens, the leading national custom jewelry designer and producer, the one-of-a-kind MLS Cup Championship Ring commemorates the first MLS Cup since the then-Wizards won in 2000.
The ring ceremony took place before today’s regular season game to evoke memories of the championship game and triumphant shootout that led to their victory. In true Sporting Kansas City fashion, the team wanted to include their fans in the ceremony. Fans were chosen in a raffle system to take part in the ceremony and deliver the championship rings to players and coaches.
“We were thrilled to present each player with a unique ring that commemorates the hard work and success we enjoyed as a team in 2013,” said Sporting Kansas City Manager Peter Vernes. “We worked closely with Jostens to create this one-of-a-kind design that tells the story of a remarkable season and celebrates the team’s Championship.”
Each of the Sporting Kansas City 2013 MLS Championship Rings are handcrafted in 10-karat white gold with 94 white round brilliant cut diamonds and 17 blue round brilliant cut diamonds, and weighs approximately 57 grams.
Featured on top of the ring is an image of the team’s inverted tear drop logo carefully crafted onto a custom-cut blue spinel stone and then surrounded by 22 round white brilliant cut diamonds. Set on top of the blue stone is the interlocking SC logo in 10 karat white gold. The top of the ring reads MLS CUP CHAMPIONS and is set with 72 round brilliant cut diamonds which cascade from the top of the ring down the sides. The left side of the ring features the recipient’s name, an image of Sporting Park and the player’s number or the individual’s title. The right side of the ring features the MLS cup in 10 karat white and yellow gold and the year 2013, with the background flooded with the interlocking SC logo. The inside of the ring is engraved with #LOUDER 12-7-13 to represent the support of their fans during the Championship run and features the story of the playoff run with each opposing team’s logos and the corresponding final scores.
