(PRWEB) May 03, 2014 -- A “riff” is the catchy part of a song that sticks in your head. One of the most recognizable guitar riffs of all time is “Smoke on the water” by Deep Purple.
“We’re studying the blues and really making sure we know that form the 12 bar blues”, says MacLennan, “there are a lot of songs that are not thought of as traditional blues, but follow the same chords or have elements of the blues in them”. The chords that are used in this song are based off of the 12 bar blues and the song is in the key of C and the 1-4-5 progression is C7, F7 and G7. Jon demonstrates how to play the song as follows; the C7 chord is in the open position and the F7 and G7 are both bar chords. Jon strums the song with an alternating bass line between the root and 5th of each chord, played as 1/8th notes. Complete guitar TAB’s are available for this easy guitar lesson at BluesGuitar.com.
