Shaker Pointe at Carondelet Announces the Completion and Grand Opening of its New 40,000 Square Foot Residence and Community Center
Watervliet, N.Y. (PRWEB) May 05, 2014 -- Today, Shaker Pointe at Carondelet, a non-profit, 55+ independent living community, announces the completion of its phase two development which features a brand new community center called The Pointe as well as a 68-residency building called Doane Brook. Shaker Pointe will be celebrating the completion of the 40,000 square foot project with a three-day grand opening celebration, taking place Monday through Wednesday, May 5-7.
Dedicated to an independent, active and engaged lifestyle, The Pointe aims to provide residents with extraordinary amenities including a fitness center and pool with accompanying classes, meditation room, an activities studio for creative arts, choice of food venues including a bistro, resident dining room or country store, a library, an in-house doctor’s office and much more.
In addition to opening its doors, Shaker Pointe is excited to announce that the new facility has been awarded the LEED platinum certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. Through its partnership with LECESSE Construction, Shaker Pointe was able to create a sustainable design that demonstrates leadership in transforming the building industry, while maintaining its commitment to preserving the environment.
Both the Doane Brooke residency and The Pointe were built using eco-friendly building materials and extreme environmental consciousness was taken into consideration when mapping the building site.

Monday, May 5 at 1:30 pm:
The Sisters of St. Joseph, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger, Bishop of the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese and Bishop Howard J. Hubbard, Bishop Emeritus of the Albany Roman Catholic Diocese will welcome attendees to celebrate the official grand opening of Shaker Pointe and the community center. The CBA Marching Band, under the direction of Sara Waite, will provide entertainment and guests will have a chance to take a guided tour of the community.
Tuesday, May 6 at 2 pm and 7 pm:
Dr. Roger Landry, MD, MPH, author of Live Long, Die Short: A Guide to Authentic Health and Successful Aging, will make a presentation on the critical steps to successful aging. Dr. Landry is a retired, highly decorated full colonel and former chief flight surgeon with the Air Force and a leading preventative medicine physician. This book is based on his decade-worth of experience smashing stereotypes about aging and helps to redefine the possibilities of older adulthood. A book signing will follow his powerful presentation.
Wednesday, May 7 at 10 am – 3:30 pm
Shaker Pointe invites guests to experience a day in the life of a resident by participating in exercise or art classes, testing the available amenities and taking a guided tour. Registration begins at 10 am, with complimentary coffee served at The Pointe. Marion C. Honors, CSJ a Sister of St. Joseph of Carondelet will exhibit her nationally recognized artwork at 10:30 am. Later in the day at 1:30 pm, local veteran artist, Len Tantillo, will present his historical and marine paintings.
