Hospital Selects Summit Express Connect Interface Engine

Cottage Hospital, located in Woodsville, New Hampshire, has been utilizing the Summit Express Connect interface engine technology and experiencing great success over the past three years. The integration technology is vital in positioning the hospital as a trailblazer for health information exchange as an early participant and supporter of the New Hampshire state HIE.

With their integration needs expanding, Cottage Hospital began evaluating interface engine technology in 2011 and selected Summit Express Connect. Summit EC offered intuitive technology with a short learning curve that was also scalable to meet the growing needs of the hospital.

In 2012, Cottage Hospital went live with Summit Express Connect, which is now vital in supporting the clinical integration between their Medhost (formally HMS) HIS and their third party applications. Leveraging integration technology at its core, the hospital now benefits from seamless integration and rapid access to critical information for clinical decision makers, which helps supports informed patient care, patient safety, and quality initiatives.

Summit Express Connect provides an integrated dashboard for quick, easy, and proactive monitoring of a hospital’s interface landscape, which can go a long way for a small IT department. Additionally, the Summit Express Connect interface engine has inherent mapping technology (SAM) that allows Cottage Hospital to easily manipulate and resend ELR and SS messages to the New Hampshire HIE. This level of integration was difficult to achieve, challenging to maintain, and costly when operating in a point-to-point interface environment. Connecting with their community physician practices was also a vital component of their integration strategy, which has been achieved through Summit Express Connect. Cottage Hospital currently sends LAB results to physician practices in both New Hampshire and Vermont, connecting to their EHRs.

Today, Cottage Hospital has over 50 interfaces live, and has saved over $100,000 in interface cost savings alone since implementing the Summit Express Connect interface engine. They expect their ROI to increase, as they continue to grow their interoperability environment, and as they factor in time and resource operational savings.
