Cannon’s presentation will focus on “Defense Contractors Need to Be Alert: A Guide To Understanding DOJ’s Current Civil and Criminal Landscape.” The presentation will cover a variety of substantive areas that could subject defense contractors to liability, including the Civil False Claims Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. It will also provide practical guidance to defense contractors on how to limit exposure to liability in those areas, among others. Other event presentations that will be given by both government and major defense contractor representatives will cover a variety of topics to assist small business defense contractors in improving and enhancing their business platforms and their business opportunities.
Prior to joining Greenberg Traurig, Cannon worked as a federal prosecutor for the Department of Justice. During his tenure with the government, he served as the Lead Prosecutor for the LOGCAP Working Group – a group that prosecuted warzone corruption matters related to the multibillion-dollar LOGCAP III and IV prime contracts awarded to defense contractors to provide logistical support to the United States Army in relation to the military conflicts in Iraq, Kuwait and Afghanistan. The LOGCAP Working Group had numerous prosecutions and investigations involving bribes, kickbacks, Major Fraud Act and civil False Claims Act matters, including qui tams. At Greenberg Traurig, Cannon focuses his practice on a wide-range of criminal and civil litigation matters, including matters related to the False Claims Act and the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act. His experience also includes handling internal investigations covering the areas noted above as well as environmental and other white collar related areas. He also handles corporate compliance plan implementation, including comprehensive anti-corruption compliance programs for companies subject to the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA) and the UK Bribery Act.
