Danvers, MA (PRWEB) May 09, 2014 -- The Association of Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialists (ACDIS) is pleased to introduce the 2014 CDI Professional of the Year and the two winners of the 2014 Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement award. All three candidates were nominated by their peers, and final selections were made by the 2014 ACDIS Conference Committee.
On Tuesday, May 6, ACDIS welcomed more than 1,000 attendees to its 7th annual national conference awards reception, sponsored by Elsevier Clinical Solutions. Attendees gathered in Bally’s Casino Event Center in Las Vegas to fete the 2014 CDI Professional of the Year Michelle Custodio, and the two Recognition of CDI Professional Achievement award recipients Katy Good and Karen Chase.
“We salute Michelle, Katy, and Karen for the contributions they make in CDI, not only within their facilities but as ambassadors to the broader CDI profession,” said Brian Murphy, ACDIS Director.
As the premier healthcare community for clinical documentation professionals, ACDIS annually celebrates the achievements of exemplary talent in the realm of CDI. Nominations of individuals who work to expand the role, promote the profession, and support the association are accepted annually and reviewed by the ACDIS Conference Committee, which evaluates and chooses the final nominees.
Michelle Custodio, RHIA, CCDS, CDIP, corporate HIMS operation manager at Ohio Health in Columbus, has worked in the CDI field for 14 years, and has previously served as corporate manager over the CDI program at Banner Health, a large nonprofit hospital system. She spearheaded the program’s start in 1998 and expanded Banner’s CDI efforts to 19 facilities across eight states.
Katy Good, RN, BSN, CCDS, CCS, AHIMA Approved ICD-10-CM/PCS Trainer, is the clinical documentation program coordinator for Flagstaff (Arizona) Medical Center, where she teamed up with quality, coding, and care coordination to expand her CDI program’s focus. Since Good joined the team, the staff has expanded from 2.5 FTEs to eight and now reviews 100% of Flagstaff Medical’s inpatient admission records.
Karen Chase, RNC, BSN, is the assistant director of clinical documentation improvement at Stony Brook (New York) University Medical Center. Her staff describes her as “dedicated,” “supportive,” “friendly,” and “outstanding.”
“CDI professionals demonstrate expertise in concurrent medical record review and clarifying physician documentation. They possess extraordinary clinical knowledge and bring an understanding of government coding and reimbursement regulations to the table. These three individuals are outstanding examples of the best in the profession, and we are proud to honor them with this year’s awards,” Murphy said.
