The Kajeet SmartSpot provides these younger children filtered Internet, for their safety, while giving our students and families the ability to travel over the summer while still preparing for the next school year, said Chad Jones of Lamar CISD.

Kajeet® (http://www.kajeet.com/education), the wireless service provider dedicated to kids and education, announced today a partnership to deploy its Kajeet SmartSpot™ solution for a pre-kindergarten summer school program in Lamar Consolidated Independent School District. Kajeet’s school-managed Wi-Fi hotspots use the Sprint 4G LTE network to keep students connected to educational resources on the Internet when they are at home or on the go this summer. The students participating in the program need extra preparation before they begin Kindergarten.
“We want to help these students work on early reading skills in an online, fun environment. Our hope is that this program will stop any sort of summer regression these students may experience, while also hopefully increasing their skill level,” said Chad Jones, director of Technology Development at Lamar CISD. “The Kajeet SmartSpot provides these younger children filtered Internet, for their safety, while giving our students and families the ability to travel over the summer while still preparing for the next school year.”
As part of this pilot program, students will be provided with a laptop and a Kajeet SmartSpot for safe mobile broadband at home or while on vacation during the summer. The Kajeet SmartSpot solution offers an affordable and simple option to bridge the digital divide providing disadvantaged students with broadband access to the Internet for educational purposes anytime or anywhere. In this Houston-area school district, approximately 50 percent of the students receive free or reduced-cost lunch.
“Children are expected to know so much before even starting kindergarten. Providing these students additional instruction gives them the right start and the confidence they need from the beginning,” said Daniel Neal, CEO and founder of Kajeet. “Developing safe and affordable technology for children has always been our passion, and we’re excited that the Lamar district is using our Kajeet SmartSpot solution for early education.”
The Kajeet SmartSpot solution allows schools to fully customize and filter the websites students can visit, as well as the time of day or night appropriate for student use. Teachers and administrators can manage access hours and filter out non-educational content, thereby keeping students on-task and controlling costs. In addition, teachers and administrators can apply online information to improve student achievement with better learning analytics.
Kajeet, the only wireless service provider dedicated to kids and education, is solving the digital divide in schools. Kajeet for Education provides portable Wi-Fi hotspots with school-managed mobile Internet connectivity. Giving teachers or administrators the ability to set access hours and filter out non-educational content, the Kajeet Sentinel® platform connects students to essential academic resources on the Internet anytime, anywhere. The Kajeet SmartSpot™ is compatible with all devices students use today and is 100 percent compliant with the Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA).
