Jewish Federation Honors WesternU President
Pomona, California (PRWEB) May 06, 2014 -- The Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys will honor Western University of Health Sciences Founding President Philip Pumerantz, PhD, at its 2014 Honoring Community Leaders Brunch.
The brunch, to be held at 10:30 a.m. Sept. 14, 2014 at the Doubletree Hotel in Monrovia, Calif., will also honor Union Station Homeless Services CEO Rabbi Marvin Gross. Dr. Pumerantz and Rabbi Gross were selected for their many contributions to the greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys.
Dr. Pumerantz founded the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific in downtown Pomona in 1977. The college initially enrolled 36 students, and has since grown and expanded into Western University of Health Sciences, one of the most comprehensive academic health sciences centers in the nation. WesternU is composed of nine colleges and has more than 3,700 students.
Dr. Pumerantz said he is honored to receive recognition from such a distinguished organization.
“The Jewish Federation is an important organization that cherishes compassion and social justice while helping to foster a greater understanding between peoples,” he said. “WesternU and the Jewish Federation are both dedicated to building bridges to unite people for the greater good, and we look forward to continuing this mission.”
Past Community Leadership honorees have been Adar Belinkoff (2010), Alan Whitman (2010), Steve Sopkin (2012) and Mickey Segal (2012).
