Cambridge, MA - Liberty Teller, the company that installed the very first bitcoin vending machine in the U.S., announced Tuesday that they were unveiling a new location, this time at Moksa in Central Square in Cambridge, MA. The machine turns cash into bitcoin in seconds, and Moksa is now one of a rapidly growing number of merchants accepting bitcoin. This news comes on the heels of MIT's announcement that all undergraduates would be receiving $100 in bitcoin when they come back to school this fall. Moksa is located just steps away from the MIT campus.
Kyle Powers and Chris Yim, the co-founders of Liberty Teller, are looking to solve what many believe are bitcoin’s biggest near-term problems: access and education. Powers explained, “before bitcoin goes mainstream, getting and using bitcoin needs to be as simple as possible. Our kiosks and tutorials are helping us make that happen. Bitcoin makes sending money like sending email, and makes our current ways of sending money look like snail mail.”
Yim, who got his undergraduate engineering degree from MIT, said, "Cambridge and Boston are starting to become a major hub of bitcoin activity. The MIT Expo this past Saturday was a prime example of that. We have been going to meetups for a while now, and every few months it seems like the attendance doubles. People are starting to see how bitcoin could do to value what the internet did to information.”
Solmon Chowdhury, the owner of Moksa, is excited about the move and the future of bitcoin, “it’s the future of payments!” He is also focused on more near-term issues, “more and more people are asking if we accept bitcoin, and we want to give our customers what they want. Also, Kyle set us up to accept bitcoin in about 10 minutes, so it was easy for us.”
This Liberty Teller kiosk will be located inside Moksa at 450 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge, MA 02139.
