Simonton Cyclists Gear Up for Sixth Annual Pelotonia
Columbus, Ohio (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Simonton Windows is preparing to once again assist in the fight against cancer by participating in the sixth annual Pelotonia bike ride in Columbus, Ohio on August 8-10, 2014. This is the third year the Simonton team will participate in raising funds for cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute.
"Team Simonton raised $14,965 for Pelotonia in 2013," says Danielle Cisler, strategic pricing manager at Simonton Windows. "Our goal this year is to raise at least $25,000 with the support of our family, friends and business associates."
There are 21 Simonton associates committed to supporting the fundraising effort. Four of those individuals will ride for 100 miles, while others complete routes of 50 and 25 miles. Some associates are participating as virtual riders and volunteers for the event.
"We’re motivated to support this event because we know that 100 percent of all funds raised are provided directly to the researchers at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center - James Cancer Hospital and Solove Research Institute to support their efforts to understand, prevent and cure cancer," says Cisler, who serves as captain this year for Team Simonton. "It’s important to all of us that we make this commitment to ride in order to give back to our community.”
To prepare for the August event team members are starting spring training individually, by pairing up for rides and organizing several team training rides. Office fundraisers to support the team are being coordinated at Simonton headquarters in Columbus that include a silent auction, "wear jeans to work" day and massage days.
Returning Team Simonton members include Mark Savan, Sid Spear, Stephanie Westgate, Danielle Cisler, Chris Goodman, Cameron Moore, Andy Shashlo, Robb Struckel, Mark Wherry and Cari Mead. First year participants include Ryan Brown, Vince Campise, Ana Castro, Megan Mazur, Michael Peterson, Timothy Sinnott, John Stark, John Tatterson, Julie Biddle, Danielle Stewart and Ashleigh VanNess.
In 2013, Pelotonia was one of the largest cycling events in the country with 6,723 riders from 41 states and nine countries. More than $19 million was raised last year, bringing Pelotonia's five-year total to $61.3 million raised for cancer research.
