The Genesis Foundation for Children is proud to announce the date and location for the annual John Havlicek Celebrity Fishing Tournament. The charity event benefitting the Genesis Foundation for Children will be held June 5 – 8, 2014 in Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Celebrating its 33rd year, the charity’s signature event will include golf, tennis, comedy, fishing off the Massachusetts Coast, and much more throughout the weekend. The event is hosted by The Genesis Foundation for Children’s board of directors, which includes the Boston Celtics legend and Basketball Hall of Famer, John Havlicek, his wife Beth, and his son Chris Havlicek; all three are active board members.
The charity weekend will kick off on Thursday in Falmouth with a ferry ride to the Harbor View Hotel, provided by The Genesis Foundation for Children. After guests arrive at the hotel and get checked into the luxury accommodations, they will be entertained with dinner and a comedy show. Friday’s schedule of events includes golf and tennis tournaments at the Farm Neck Golf Club overlooking Nantucket Sound. Guests will then be treated to dinner and a live auction. Attendees can bid on autographed sports memorabilia and amazing vacation packages; all proceeds go to The Genesis Foundation for Children. The highlight event takes place all day Saturday, the catch and release fishing tournament off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. The evening will be capped off with an awards ceremony, silent auction, and a farewell dinner.
The cost to attend is $3,500 for each participant. Guests of participants may join for $1,000. The cost covers round-trip transportation between Falmouth, MA and Martha’s Vineyard, hotel accommodations at the Harbor View Hotel for 3 nights, all meals Thursday afternoon through Sunday morning, golf or tennis tournament, fishing tournament, and nightly entertainment which includes Thursday’s comedy show. John Havlicek tells us, "I am proud to have established the John Havlicek Celebrity Fishing Tournament, benefiting the Genesis Foundation for Children. For the past 33 years we have raised millions of dollars for children born with birth defects and genetic abnormalities. Hopefully the funds we have raised for their care and treatment will have made meaningful differences in the patient’s lives and their families. I am very proud to be associated with the Genesis Foundation for children."
John Havlicek’s son, Chris Havlicek, has followed in his father’s footsteps as a board member of The Genesis Foundation for Children. He is quoted as saying, "I have been a part of this fishing tournament every year since I was ten years old, and I am so happy that it continues today. We have raised so much money for so many families throughout New England and I am honored to serve this great organization. My wife and I hope we can continue the work my parents started in 1980 for many years to come." The Genesis Foundation for Children is a New England based non-profit organization. They provide the funding necessary to diagnose and coordinate compassionate care of children that were born with physical and intellectual disabilities, and genetic disorders. The goal of The Genesis Foundation for Children is that all children born with these challenges get the care and attention they need to reach their full potential.
