Science Inc. Acquires Social Bookmarks Manager Delicious
Santa Monica, CA (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Science Inc. (http://www.Science-Inc.), the technology studio whose platform is used to grow and scale businesses, announced today it has agreed to acquire social bookmarking app Delicious (http://www.delicious.com and http://www.del.icio.us) from AVOS Systems, founded by Chad Hurley and Steve Chen, also co-founders of YouTube.
Science has spent the past two years developing and investing in brands and marketplace companies. Having co-founded and invested in 40 companies, Science has backed breakout companies like men’s lifestyle brand Dollar Shave Club, pet services marketplace DogVacay, and Pinterest marketing firm HelloSociety, amongst many others. The acquisition of Delicious marks the first extension of Science’s portfolio themes to data content companies.
“Delicious as a social bookmarking utility has incredible value in both its deep understanding on trending web properties as well as its mobile and browser based customer experience,” says Michael Jones, founder and CEO of Science Inc. “We are eager to have them as part of our growing portfolio of transformative digital companies. Delicious masterfully understands how content flows through social platforms, and this expertise will be the lynchpin of our burgeoning data oriented mobile content portfolio.”
Science’s platform combines proprietary technology, process and audience in order to engage customers. The platform is then leveraged to build companies that Science starts, invests in, and buys.
With this unique expertise, Science plans to shepherd Delicious to its next phase of growth, and maintain the features that millions of users have come to adore. Delicious manages submissions of more than 13 million links from over two million active users per month. Over a billion links are served daily from more than 200 countries worldwide.
“We are confident Science will give Delicious and its millions of users the attention and service they deserve,” said Chad Hurley, co-founder and CEO of AVOS Systems. “We are excited to have Michael and the Science team support the product’s social utility and enhance its growing community.”
The primary focus in the coming weeks will be on maintaining a seamless transition for Delicious users, so that the service they’ve come to rely on continues to delivery maximum utility for saving users’ favorite links and content across the web and mobile.
