Sofia Berger Tapped to Lead Louis Berger’s Latin American and Caribbean Operations
Morristwon, N.J. (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Sofia Berger has been promoted to vice president in charge of Latin American and Caribbean operations at Louis Berger. In this role, Berger will be responsible for the strategic direction of the regional operation to build on the current foundation and grow all of the company’s services within the region. She also will lead client management, program delivery and business development activities in the region.
Berger succeeds Carlos Marcenaro, who led Louis Berger’s Latin American and Caribbean practice for more than 15 years. Marcenaro will assume new responsibilities and will serve as an advisor to Berger as she transitions into the role on July 1, 2014.
Berger joined the company in 2012 to lead private sector development work within Louis Berger’s international operation. In 2013, she played a leadership role in establishing a new strategic alliance with one of the corporation’s largest private development partners.
“Sofia has played a key role in our international leadership during the past two years,” said D. James Stamatis, president of Louis Berger’s international operations. “She has demonstrated herself as a savvy business developer and operational leader. Her success leading the post-acquisition integration for APIA XXI, which also does a significant amount of work in Latin America, made Sofia a clear choice as our next leader for this important and growing region.”
Prior to joining Louis Berger, Berger worked as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company covering construction, infrastructure and capital productivity issues. She also served as a project manager at Perini Corporation (now Tutor-Perini) where she led teams to turnaround defaulted construction projects on behalf of large insurance companies.
She earned bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and economics-operations research from Columbia University and a Masters in Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
Berger is the granddaughter of the firm’s founder, Dr. Louis Berger, who established the company 60 years ago. She is the third generation of the Berger family to assume a management role within the corporation.
