Hattie Winston and Harold Wheeler Honored for Community Service, Longevity in Entertainment Industry
Los Angeles, Calif. (PRWEB) May 08, 2014 -- Hollywood couple Hattie Winston and Harold Wheeler each received awards last month for their work in the entertainment industry and in the Los Angeles community.
Winston, perhaps best known as “Margaret” on the long-running CBS sitcom Becker, was among the honorees at the Powerful Women in Red Luncheon hosted by the Los Angeles Alumnae chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority. The event was held Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Taglyan Complex. The Powerful Women in Red Luncheon celebrated 22 African American women in the Los Angeles area who have made a positive impact on the community.
Wheeler, who served for 17 seasons as the musical director and bandleader on the ABC reality competition show Dancing with the Stars, was honored at the Giving Back Corporation’s 15th Annual Celebrity Spring Roast/Toast. The event was held Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the DoubleTree by Hilton in Culver City. Proceeds from the event benefit the Giving Back Scholarship Fund, which provides monies for books and other supplies to college-bound students.
Winston is currently featured in the Rubicon Theatre Company’s revival of Nora and Delia Ephron’s Love, Loss and What I Wore, running through Sunday, May 18, 2014. She can also be seen recurring as “Pearly” on the TVLand series The Soul Man, starring Cedric the Entertainer and Niecy Nash. Wheeler is currently providing new orchestrations for a revival performance of the Tony-nominated musical Side Show, slated to run at the Kennedy Center from June 14 to July 13, 2014.
