Cold Country Vines & Wines to Hold Grand Opening May 24 & May 25, 2014
(PRWEB) May 15, 2014 -- Cold Country Vines & Wines located in Kewaunee, Wisconsin, will hold its Grand Opening on Memorial Day weekend: Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The celebration will include wine tasting, tours, food, music, raffles and more. It’s not only one of the newest wineries in Wisconsin; it’s also one of the largest vineyards with 8,400 vines on 15 acres.
The new winery, which officially opened on May 9, is located in a remodeled horse barn along the picturesque East Twin River. It’s within eyesight of the historic Ice Age Trail in Kewaunee, just east of Green Bay.
Owners and vintners, Jay and Kay Stoeger, brought their dream of a winery to fruition after years of research, training and hands-on learning. They planted their vineyard in 2010 and harvested the grapes to produce some of the finest private labeled wines from cold-climate cultivars.
“It took horticulturists years to perfect grapes that not only survive, but thrive, in cold climates,” explained Jay Stoeger. “But now these cold-climate cultivars are changing how wine is viewed—not just in the Midwest—but throughout the world. They’re starting to make the heavyweights in traditional wine regions uneasy because they don’t have a lot of the problems traditional vines do. The grapes have also become highly sought after because of the unique flavors and distinct tones they produce.”
With seven different wines and seven more to follow, Cold Country Vines & Wines celebrates the best Wisconsin has to offer. Said Kay Stoeger, “We try to have something for everyone; from the first-time wine taster to the highly developed wine-tasting palate.”
The winery will be open limited hours in May: Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sundays, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. with the exception of the Grand Opening celebration on Saturday, May 24 and Sunday, May 25, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. Full hours of operation will begin in June.
