Jerry May has always loved house projects, so when he and his family decided it was time for an encore career, the choice was easy – Fresh Coat Painters. May just launched Fresh Coat Painters Auburn, a painting company dedicated to customer service and professional quality.

“We are looking forward to serving our community with this new business. Our painters are excellent, our customer service is unmatched and our products are the high quality of Sherwin Williams,” May said.

Fresh Coat Painters offers residential and commercial painting services including interior and exterior painting, wood staining and finishing, and other services for nearly every protective coating application. They use quality, environmentally safe materials and offer a 24/7 customer service center, online scheduling, in-home color design consultations, and detailed quotes.

Fresh Coat is committed to quality products and services. In fact, the company offers a 3-3-3 customer service pledge, which means calls will be answered by a live person within three minutes, a quote will be delivered within three days (customer schedule permitting) and the job will be started within three weeks. Fresh Coat Painters Auburn serves Eastern Alabama and parts of Western Georgia including Auburn, Alex City, Opelika, Valley, Lynette, Tallassee and LaGrange.

Before opening Fresh Coat Painters Auburn, May spent 17 years in the newspaper industry and started with the Auburn News in 2004. Although he’s been an award-winning distribution manager, it was time for a change.

“We were at the point where, to grow in my job, we either needed to move or I needed to change careers. We have lived in this community since 2004 and we love it so much that moving just wasn’t an option,” he said. “I’ve always enjoyed house projects and one day, while I was painting the dining room, my wife said I should do that for a living. I wasn’t sure I wanted to paint every day, but I it got the wheels turning.”

When May began researching potential franchising opportunities, he learned that a friend from college owned a Fresh Coat Painters in Summerville, South Carolina. His friend told him that Fresh Coat Painters was a solid national franchise that would allow him to fill a needed role in the community while growing his individual business in a way that fit his needs.

“I was tired of not having control over my life and my career. The newspaper industry is tough and it’s frustrating to be in a position where there’s not much you can do for your customers or your employees because of the restrictions you face. I’m looking forward to being a business owner and working directly with my clients every day,” he said.

May launched the business with the support of his wife Amy and their two children, Sophie and Henry. The family belongs to the Church of the Highland Auburn and excited about becoming more involved in the community.

Fresh Coat was founded in 2004 as part of Strategic Franchising Systems. In the last year, Fresh Coat has been included in the Bond’s Top 100 and named to Entrepreneur Magazine’s Franchise 500 list. Fresh Coat also is part of the International Franchise Association, the Small Business Association’s Franchise Registry, VetFran and Minority Fran.
