Hundreds of Emergency Management Personnel and Voluntary Community Leaders Attend Annual Disaster Conference Next Week in Indy
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) May 09, 2014 -- The 24th Annual Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD) Conference is expected to bring over 500 participants to Indianapolis during the week of May 12 representing nationwide leadership from faith-based, community and other non-profit organizations, as well as from local, state and federal emergency management agencies and government organizations. The conference will take place at the JW Marriott, providing opportunities for continuing education, community service, and networking for this valuable collection of agencies and professionals.
Tuesday, May 13, John Hill, Director of the Indiana Department of Emergency Management, will greet conference attendees. In addition, Eduardo Martinez, President of the UPS Foundation and Richard Reed, Senior Vice President of the American Red Cross will speak to the group. The same night, National VOAD will present 5 awards to national community-based and faith-based disaster response organizations. One of the top awards of the night is this year’s “Don Hampton Volunteer of the Year Award.” The recipient of the award will receive the Presidential Volunteer Service Award and two Walt Disney World tickets courtesy of Federal Alliance for Safe Homes (FLASH). This event will be emcee’d by WISH TV’s own Dave Barras.
Wednesday, May 14, Ohio University-Chillicothe, Associate Dean, Dr. Brenda Phillips, will present to national members, state representatives, community leaders, government partners, and other key stakeholders on various aspects of emergency management.
Thursday, May 15, John Hope Bryant, CEO and Founder of Operation Hope, entrepreneur, author, businessman and thought leader will be the conference’s keynote speaker.
