Matteson Public Library recently hosted a groundbreaking ceremony to mark the official start of their library expansion project. Gilbane Building Company will serve as the construction manager for this exciting project, which will expand library operations by 40%.

The primary goal during preconstruction will be to maximize square footage of the addition with the available budget, while balancing the remaining available funds for interior renovations and site work. The new facility will include new meeting, study and conference space, and teen area and early learning space.

“Our team is very excited to be a part of this much needed expansion to the library,” says Derek Ward, Business Manager – Public Sector of Gilbane Building Company. “After following the process the library has gone through for many years, the groundbreaking symbolizes a great deal of hard work by a lot of committed people. It was an exciting day!”

During construction, the Gilbane team will maintain the library’s ongoing operations with a major emphasis on safety of staff and patrons. The project is anticipated to be complete December 2014.
