Lumension to Offer New Microsoft System Center Patching Solution for Third Party Applications
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) May 12, 2014 -- Staying current on third-party application patches is one of the most significant risks and tasks that IT administrators face, say 66 percent of respondents to the 2014 State of the Endpoint report by Ponemon Institute. For enterprises with a Microsoft System Center environment, Lumension®, a global leader in endpoint management and security, has launched Lumension® Patch Manager DeskTop (LPMDT), a new application extension that provides simplified patching for the most targeted third party applications on Windows desktops from within Microsoft System Center.
Lumension® Patch Manager DeskTop delivers the broadest third party patch coverage for applications most targeted by hackers in the enterprise environment including Adobe, Apple, Java, Quicktime and others. This patch coverage is delivered through a System Center Update Publisher (SCUP) catalogue utilizing the existing workflow and does not require additional installation or management overhead. Developed exclusively for use within the Microsoft System Center environment, Lumension’s patent-pending Patch-Smart technology ensures a greater 1st time patch implementation success rate and validation that patch remediation has taken place, which subsequently improves IT efficiency. The streamlined patching process improves security, enhances endpoint visibility and reduces audit burden with a strong, centralized compliance reporting component.
“Lumension Patch Manager DeskTop takes the guesswork out of third party patching in your Microsoft System Center environment,” said Russ Ernst, director, product management, Lumension. “The automated process with granular control capabilities gives IT total control when deciding which patches to deploy and on what systems.”
LPMDT is the second application extension developed by Lumension for Microsoft System Center. Last year, Lumension released Lumension® Patch Manager for DataCenter to help enterprises secure vulnerabilities across Linux and UNIX server-based IT environments. From data center to desktop, the two solutions together reduce enterprise risk against today’s targeted threats.
“Microsoft System Center provides an advanced platform for managing heterogeneous IT environments, from both a platform and application perspective,” said Andrew Conway, Senior Director, Product Marketing, Microsoft. “Lumension’s application in combination with Microsoft System Center provides our joint customers with advanced security patch management capabilities to help meet audit and compliance requirements for both critical infrastructure as well as the desktop environment."
