The riff that Jacques is teaching in this video is in the key of A and is based around the A minor pentatonic scale. “This riff can be used for an intro, outro or to improvise with”, says Darville, “it’s very usable and very simple”. Jacques demonstrates how to play this easy blues guitar riff as follows; 7th fret of the 4th string with 3rd finger, to 5th fret of the 3rd string with first finger and doing a hammer-on to the 6th fret with 2nd finger, to 5th fret of the 2nd string with first finger, to the 7th fret of the 2nd string with 3rd finger, to the 5th fret of the first string with first finger and finally 8th fret of the 2nd string with 2nd finger and doing a slide to the 10th fret. Jacques continues this easy blues guitar lesson by demonstrating a variety of alternate ways to play this riff by changing the timing and phrasing to accommodate what you are playing it over, so you can easily follow along and get all the details of the riff.
